Leading mobile phone repair specialist looks to diversify into IT market ? considering partnership with channel provider

Fone Doctors to launch laptop service

One of the UK’s leading mobile phone repair specialists is to move into laptop repairs later this year, after it completes a soft rollout of the service.

Speaking to Mobile News, Fone Doctors’ owner Faisal Sheikh said that the firm is taking its time introducing the service, as it is keen to make sure that it can carry on providing the level of repair as it does with mobile phones.

"This is still in its very early stages," he told the magazine. "At the moment, we’re only repairing a few laptops per week. We’re taking it slowly and ensuring we get everything exactly right."

However, Sheikh has admitted his firm currently lacks the knowledge to handle repairs of certain components, revealing that the company is considering the possibility of teaming up with an IT specialist to handle the more complex problems.

"With laptops, we’re building our knowledge and confidence of repair procedures, which have to be spot on. Motherboard repairs are particularly complex," he conceded. "We are to decide whether to bring someone in house or outsource the laptops.

"Everything should be ready for launch proper within the next few weeks," he added.
