100 million downloads but fails to grab new users

First security update for Firefox 4

Browser developer Mozilla has released an update for Firefox 4 which addresses a number of security vulnerabilities and browser stability issues.

In all the update to Firefox 4.0.1 addressed more than 50 bugs, some of which could allow malicious code to be run while another relates to memory corruption which crash the browser under certain circumstances.

Firefox 4 surpassed 100 million downloads in the month since the substantially revamped version launched. However the total market share of web browser activity has been less impressive with Mozilla largely failing to win over new users with the downloads confined to users of 3.6 upgrading to 4.0.

Mozilla can be consolled somewhat that Firefox 4 has at least managed to surpass eight per cent of web browser usage while Microsoft’s Vista and Windows 7-only IE9 has barely snaked past 3 per cent according to StatCounter.
