Claims up to three times faster than stock browser

Firefox for Android released

Following hot on the heels of the release of Firefox 4, Mozilla announced the release of the Firefox 4 browser for Android smartphones.

Mozilla claimed the third-party browser "delivers an intuitive interface, unparalleled customization and support for modern Web technologies," including features such as tabbed browsing and bookmark sync.

The browser developer also said that Firefox is up to three times faster than the default webkit-powered browser on Android smartphones with developer Brad Lassey blogging a detailed performance review showing the mobile browser handily beating the Android stock browser at JavaScript.

The Firefox installer size is 13.8Mb but the developers recently added the ability to be moved to the SD card, reducing usage of valuable internal memory to less than 100kb.

Firefox for Android is currently available in the Android Marketplace for all devices based on ARMv7 processors. It does not currently support Flash.
