Mozilla has added support for millions more devices to its Firefox for Android web browser.
Until now, Firefox supported phones running Android version 2.2 and higher – if the phone had an ARMv7 processor. The browser is now compatible with a number of devices using ARMv6 processors. These include the HTC Status, HTC ChaCha, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Motorola Fire XT, and the LG Optimus Q.
“At Mozilla, our mission is to bring the Web to as many people as we can. Given that roughly half of the nearly 500 million Android phones in use today run on ARMv6 architecture, this is an important step toward making the open Web free to all,” reads the Mozilla blog.
New accessibility features have been added, which makes web browsing easier for the visually impaired. One of these, Explore by Touch, enables the user to browse to web using speech output, sounds and vibrations.
