Chart-topping MMO to have first expansion pack detailed at fan festival

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn expansion set for October reveal

The game director of sell-out MMO hit Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has said that the game’s first expansion pack will be revealed in October.

Speaking in an interview with Polygon, Naoki Yoshida said that details of version ‘3.0’ of the title would be revealed at the Final Fantasy XIV fan festival, which is set to celebrated in a series of events in London, Tokyo and Las Vegas throughout October and November.

"We want the fans to know it first," explained Yoshida.

"They have been the ones supporting us."

He added that the team would continue to update the game in a series of patches leading up to the launch, including the addition of the large-scale player-versus-player ‘Frontlines’ feature.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was released in late August last year to massive demand.

Many UK High Street retailers sold out of boxed copies of the game, with publisher Square Enix even forced to temporarily suspend digital sales of the title as players rushed to jump into the online world.

This chart-topping performance contrasted heavily with the original launch of Final Fantasy XIV, which was launched in 2010 to widespread criticism.

The game was then re-envisioned and relaunched as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, achieving a positive critical reception and smash sales.
