Female CIOs are more risk-aware than their male counterparts, according to a new survey from Gartner.

The survey stated that both genders believe that the digital world is creating new risks, but 76 per cent of female CIOs are more likely to express concerns on risk management, compared to 67 per cent of males.

As well as this, Gartner’s annual look at tech spending also revealed that female CIOs expect to have more success at increasing their IT budgets this year.

Gartner found that male CIOs expect an increase of less than one per cent while females expect their budgets to increase by 2.4 per cent.

“For a second year in a row, the women in our survey are expecting greater budget increases than the men,” said Tina Nunno, VP and Gartner Fellow.

“While it's not entirely clear why this difference exists, further survey data indicates that female CIOs are more concerned about underinvestment in risk initiatives than male CIOs.”

Gartner’s worldwide survey included responses from 2,810 CIOs, representing more than $397bn in CIO IT budgets in 84 countries.
