Facebook has revealed new search capabilities for its social networks that allows for search and analysis of its internal databases.
According to the FT, the tool has been launched primarily to help marketers analyse the effects of search-based advertising.
“We’re giving people the power and the tools to take any cut of the graph that they want and make any query they want,” said Facebook’s chief exec, Mark Zuckerberg.
“There are so many people on Facebook, you can get a really good signal really quickly.”
It also has features aimed at consumers, allowing them to search for people who share interests or for photos of certain people. However, Zuckerberg was keen to stress that the feature is ‘privacy aware’, adding: “We take this very seriously”.
The function is still in its early stages and will only be available to a limited number of users at first.
