Social networking giant Facebook was forced to go offline following the accidental appearance of prototype designs for sections of the web site.
Facebook took the site down for around half an hour following the brief appearance of an overhauled photo viewing section and a mysterious ‘page management’ feature.
“For a brief period of time, some internal prototypes were made public to a number of people externally” Facebook wrote on the firm’s company blog. “As a result, we took the site down for a few minutes. It’s back up, and we apologise for the inconvenience.”
Another new feature briefly glimpsed by the site’s users included a “memories” feature which generates a timeline of activities on Facebook.
Facebook is currently rolling out a new-look profile page with users asked if they want to opt-in to the new profile design when they visit the social networking site.
