E-reader owners read more books than those relying on traditional hardbacks and paperbacks, a study has found.

According to research by Harris Interactive, 26 per cent of Americans with e-readers read 21 or more books per year, compared to 19 per cent of those without one of the devices.

And 53 per cent of e-reader owners said they read more now than they did six months ago, compared to just 18 per cent of others.

The poll of 2,775 adults also found that eight per cent of Americans own a Kindle or similar device, and of those who don’t, 12 per cent claim they are likely to get one in the next six months.
