Enterprise sales give Dell Q2 profit boost

Company revenue up 22 per cent but consumer sales remain flat

Dell reported a growth in net incoming and revenue for the second quarter, driven by strong growth in business hardware and services.

Servers, storage and enterprise services increased globally, Dell said in an earnings statement but the company also saw growth in consumer laptop and desktop business earnings. $15.5 billion total revenue up 22 per cent year on year. 

Emerging economies had also proven highly successful for the PC maker with Brazil, Russia, China and India up by 52 per cent to 12 per cent of the company's overall revenue. Net income overall was $545 million, up from $472 million a year before equating to a 16 per cent rise in net income. 

The US-based IT giant said that the corporate network side of the business grew by 35 per cent but it was Dell services that excelleled with an increase in revenue of 57 per cent to $1.9 billion.

While desktop and laptop revenue was up, the consumer side of the business remained flat at $2.9 billion. The company is seeking to build on the strong results in the enterprise sector with the recent acquisition of storage operator 3PAR for $1.15 billion.
