Disties fight over growing PC gaming space as Tech Data sets ambitious goal

Distributor Tech Data has said it wants to be ‘number one for gamers’, making the market for UK PC gaming components and accessories as competitive as the games themselves.

Tech Data is the latest to outline bold ambitions in the growing gaming sector (a quick look herehere and here proves it’s on the up across the board), following the likes of VIP Computers, Exertis and Entatech.

Earlier this year VIP said it wanted to be the gaming distributor of choice, while in 2014 vendors praised Enta’s gaming push, and of course Exertis distributes a host of PC components too, as well as consoles like the Xbox One and accessories.

Then there’s the likes of Spire Technology, Target Components, Caseking and others which supply gaming components and accessories to UK retailers.

Now Tech Data has thrown its hat into the ring.

In a statement, the distie says it has set out its ambitions to be a ‘one-stop shop for retailers and resellers serving the UK’s growing PC gaming community’, and is ‘ideally-placed to meet the needs of gamers’.

The company says it will be putting dedicated resources in place to support gaming systems builders and resellers, and will be also be bringing forward special promotions, bundles and incentives.

Its vendor portfolio includes MSI, ASUS and Acer as well as graphics cards based on NVIDIA and AMD technologies. Other categories range from memory and SSDs to conventional HDDs and cases from Antec.

Tech Data also has its TD Activate Here electronic software download (ESD) service, allowing retailers to enable their customers to download games from their web stores. Digital titles from publishers such as 2K Games, Activision, Rockstar Games, SEGA, Square Enix, THQ and Ubisoft are already available.

Jason Clegg, consumer business development manager at Tech Data, said: “Tech Data really is now a one-stop shop for resellers and retailers who target gamers. We stock the most popular pre-build systems brands on the market and have a massive choice of enhancement components and upgrade products too.

"We have been building up our knowledge of the market too and we are now confident that we’re ready to meet all the needs of this very demanding sector.”

Tech Data added in a statement: "Tech Data can offer excellent stock availability, reliable next-day shipment to every corner of the UK, additional specialist logistics services and extensive credit, subject to terms and conditions."

Earlier this year Tech Data told PCR in an interview it wants to be the first choice for retailers.

The ball is in your court, rival disties.
