Far Cry 3 and The Walking Dead also take home awards as celebrated PC titles

Dishonored takes top award at Bafta Games Awards

Bethesda’s stealth-and-slash title Dishonored has been named Best Game at this year’s British Academy of Film and Television Arts games awards.

Taking to the stage, the game’s publisher apologised to the British crowd for its spelling of the highly-acclaimed title.

Meanwhile, fellow first-person title Far Cry 3 got the nod for Best Action game, whilst 2k Games’ XCOM: Enemy Unknown took home the Best Strategy award.

It was a big night for PC success story The Walking Dead, which fought off fierce competition to win both the Best Mobile & Handheld and Best Story categories.

Telltale Games’ episodic spin-off of the popular graphic novel and TV series was reward for its deeply interactive stroyline, which saw users forge their own way through the game as a result of the personal decisions they make.

Most critics praised the title’s ability to warrant emotional responses from players as they progressed through the storyline and witnessed the fates of its key characters.

The evening saw Valve founder Gabe Newell honoured with an Academy Fellowship for his contribution to games, particularly the influence that titles including Half Life and Portal have had on the industry.

"On behalf of everyone at Valve, and all of the gamers who have gone with us on this adventure over the last few years – thank you very much," said Newell when accepting the award.
