Diamond Multimedia, the firm behind FireGL and Monster3D in the late ‘90s, has announced that it is planning to fully re-enter the PC market with the introduction of its ATI R600-based VFX 2000 featuring 2GB of GDDR4 memory.
The company is positioning the card as the spiritual successor to the FireGL brand, which is now co-incidentally owned by ATI, and is aiming it at ‘workstation-class’ computers.
It is expected that the card will be launched sometime later this month although no price has been announced. Speculation suggests that the price tag will be around the £1300-£1500 mark, based upon the market it is targeting, as well as Diamond’s previous pricing structure.
