The machine currently runs Windows Vista and comes with Bluetooth and wi-fi, and will be based upon Intel’s Santa Rosa Centrino Pro platform. It is also fitted with a fingerprint scanner and comes with X3100 integrated graphics.

This is Dell’s first foray into the tablet market, which is dominated by the likes of Hewlett-Packard, Fujitsu, LG and Gateway.

Explaining Dell’s absence from the market so far Jeff Clark, senior vice president of business product group said: “The technology, customer and usage models have evolved to the point that it makes sense for Dell to enter the marketplace.”
