Dell is rumoured to be preparing to sell around $10 billion in non-core assets, including software and services.

Reuters reports the PC vendor is planning this to reduce the heavy debt load it will be taking on to buy data storage company EMC for around £44 billion.

Dell will reportedly take on $49.5 billion of debt once the merger with EMC is completed.

The vendor has been in talks with credit rating agencies in recent days, according to people close to the matter.

Assets Dell could sell include Quest Software, SonicWall, AppAssure and Perot Systems, but this is all speculation at this stage.

Dell's rival HP recently took a swipe at the company over the EMC deal.
