Claims crown as world's thinnest 15-inch notebook

Dell goes after MacBook Pro with Dell XPS 15z

PC maker Dell has launched the 15-inch Dell XPS 15z laptop which the firm claims is the "thinnest on the planet."

The 15.6-inch aluminium chassis Dell XPS 15z is the PC maker’s answer to the MacBook Pro and with a starting price tag of around £900 is similarly aimed at the high end of the market.

With three SKUs on offer, the entry £900 spec includes a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-2410, 1GB GeForce GT 525M 4GB of RAM and a 1366 x 768 display. An extra £100 upgrades the display to 1920×1080 while the top shelf £1,200 model has an Intel i7-2620M 2.7GHz CPU and 2GB graphics card.

CNET UK provided their "preliminary impressions" of the svelte Dell XPS 15z, giving the thumbs up for high specification components and light 2.51Ghz weight although they did say it was "not the slimmest laptop we’ve encountered" and lamented the lack of Blu-ray.

Dell also produced a teaser video showing off the slender design and backlit chicklet style keyboard.
