Dell has confirmed that it is to relocate its European production base to Poland as part of a drive to reduce costs.

The move, which has been speculated since September, will see the loss of 1900 jobs at Dell’s Limerick facilities, according to CRN. However, a number of administrational jobs will remain as Dell looks to continue coordinating logistics and supply from Ireland.

“We are proud of our 18-year tenure as a major manufacturer in Ireland,” said Dell’s vice president of operations, EMEA, Sean Corkery. “This is a difficult decision, but the right one for Dell to become even more competitive, and deliver greater value to customers in the region.”
