After attracting one million unique users, zombie-mod receives support from Bohemia Interactive

DayZ officially goes standalone

The smash-hit zombie survival mod is set to be released as a standalone title.

Creator of the title Dean "Rocket" Hall has confirmed the announcement on the official DayZ dev blog.

It follows yesterday’s news that the mod had managed to attract over one million unique users, after it held the top spot on digital download service Steam for a number of weeks.

DayZ is being backed by Arma II creators Bohemia Interactive, who has hired Hall as the venture’s project lead.

"This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago." Hall stated.

"Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price." He continued.

Hall has promised to provide gamers with more information and regular updates over the coming weeks.

"I realise people will have many, many questions – but we wanted to let everyone know the announcement now. Over the coming weeks, these questions will be answered."

The game will also be launched with its own site – www.dayzgame.com, whilst the mod will remain at its present link.
