Industry sources believe both firms will launch flagship models with wireless charging in 2013

Could the iPhone 5S and Galaxy S4 have wireless charging capabilities?

Digitimes has reported that both Samsung and Apple are set to follow in the footsteps of Nokia by adding wireless charging capabilities to their 2013 flagship models.

‘Industry sources’ told the publication that Samsung is expected to adopt Qi wireless charging technology for the Galaxy S4, and Apple is working on its own version of the technology.

“Apple is likely to adopt the wireless charging technology developed internally, but it remains unknown if the next-generation iPhone will come with built-in wireless charging capability or with other attached accessories,” said the sources.

Digitimes reports that Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, which will be unveiled on March 14th, may not come with embedded wireless charging capabilities, but rather owners will be required to buy replacement back covers once the new technology is unveiled.
