IT association CompTIA has announced first details of its IT career-boosting ‘Dream IT’ initiative in the UK.

Dream IT is a library of resources, speaker presentations and networking events connecting 10,000 people in IT careers.

It will feature at CompTIA's 2015 EMEA Member & Partner Conference on October 19th to 20th and aims to address the UK skills gap by encouraging more women to join the IT industry.

“The IT marketplace is changing at a remarkable pace, and customers have higher expectations than ever of the products and services that they purchase,” said CompTIA in a statement.

“It’s an exciting time for us all, but we all need to ensure that we have strategies in place that accommodate for the long-term changes in the industry.”

Apprenticeships will be a strong focus, with discussions taking place on how SMEs and other businesses can get the most of the workforce by looking at apprentices and the particular skills they can deliver.

CompTIA’s Dream IT initiative has already launched in the US, and the firm’s UK channel community director Estelle Johannes previously revealed to PCR that it would be brining it to the UK sometime this year.

She said: “It’s an education piece where we try to empower people to go out to universities and schools, and talk about how they can access tools to promote women in technology – and it’s empowering people with those tools.

“It makes them realise a career in technology is viable, it’s feasible and it’s not just someone ticking away on a computer in a dungeon somewhere!"

PCR is also hosting the PCR Women of the Year event on October 16th, with event partner CompTIA and headline partner Zaboura, celebrating leading women in the UK tech industry. You can purchase tickets here
