Commodore USA has announced the Commodore PC64 replica of the 8-bit classic computer will be available this year.

The new Commodore PC64 is said to be an Intel Atom 525-based PC with 4GB of RAM, Nvidia Ion2 graphics, 1TB HD and optical drive, all crammed into an exact replica beige chassis Commodore C64.

"The legacy of the Commodore C64, which sold over 30 million units, making it the best selling computer of all time, and our reintroduction of this legendary form factor, combined with the world's most recognizable consumer electronics brand, is a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Commodore USA CEO Barry Altman.

"We look forward to bringing these new products to market, and welcoming a whole new generation of computer users to the Commodore experience."

The company licenses the Commodore brand from Commodore Licensing B.V and had earlier launched the Phoenix model which looks a little more like a C16 with a low-profile keyboard and a built-in trackpad.

The Commodore USA website is also showing images of an Amiga 500-like PC and contains details of a low profile all-in-one keyboard called the "Amigo" PC with a 1.5Ghz "x86 compatible processor."
