IT trade show CeBIT has been given a new structure for 2014 with a 'datability' theme, in a bid to 'sharpen' the show's B2B profile.

CeBIT will run from March 10th to March 14th at Deutsche Messe in Hannover, Germany, with over 3,500 companies expected to exhibit from 70 countries (up from last year's 3,382).

The keynote theme of this year’s CeBIT is 'datability' - the ability to process and use vast quantities of data, quickly, responsibly and sustainably.

“The show’s 100 per cent B2B focus and its new thematic thrust have met with a very positive worldwide response,” said Oliver Frese, the member of Deutsche Messe’s Managing Board in charge of CeBIT.

"Having Datability as our lead theme will focus attention on the big opportunities that are emerging as a result of the worldwide big data trend. Big data will change the very heart of the IT industry and many user industries.

"Following extensive consultation with the industry, we have revamped the show to be more closely aligned with the markets it serves, with a clear business focus. That’s why the ICT companies and trade visitors from around the world who participate in CeBIT 2014 will be able to use their time here more efficiently and effectively than ever before, for maximum benefit.”

Samsung, Huawei, Volkswagen, HP, Brother, Epson and salesforce.com are among the big-name companies who are returning this year with a significantly expanded footprint. Other major players, such as Kyocera, Western Digital and LG, will be back after a few years’ absence. Intel will showcase its entire product range in a completely new corporate pavilion.

More than 300 young companies will be showcasing their innovative business models in a range of display categories too. 450 start-ups from 60 nations participated in the CODE_n international startup competition, with the 50 top entries to be presented at CeBIT.
