Revenues for the consumer electronics industry are expected to rise by three per cent this year.

According to research by the U.S. Consumer Electronics Sales and Forecasts, released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the industry is predicted to reach $223.2 billion.

The forecast suggests that revenue for new product categories, including 3D printers and 4K TVs, will double, growing 108 per cent year-over-year this year.

The categories are also expected to contribute almost $11 million to overall consumer electronics revenue in 2015.

CEA also predicts that wearable unit sales will reach 30.9 million units and generate $5.1 million in revenue.

Unit tablet sales are also expected to reach 80.7 million this year, a three per cent increase from 2014, while revenue will go down by one per cent to $24.9 million.

The research also showed that TV sets and displays will reach $18.3 billion, down by two per cent from 2014.

The 2015 International CES is poised to be a record-breaking show with more than 3,600 exhibitors across the largest show floor in history, with more than 2.2 million net square feet of exhibit space, breaking last year’s previously set record of 2.06 million net square feet.
