BT plans plans to bring superfast fibre to Cornwall

BT is aiming to provide super fast fibre-based broadband to 90% of homes in Cornwall in the largest rural fibre deployment program to date.

The project is to cost £132m with the telco’s investment amounting to £78m while the European Regional Development Fund will contribute £53m. BT is planning to spend £2.5 billion to roll out fibre broadband to over third thirds of the the UK by 2015.

"This partnership shows what can be achieved when people work with BT," said BT boss Ian Livingston. "Our door remains open to others who are keen to work with us to bring fibre broadband to their areas."

BT said that the final third of UK households without access to super fast broadband is "undoubedly challenging" but the project which aims to lay 150,000 showed that it is possible.
