Brother has told PCR it has worked incredibly hard to increase its market share in printers, after posting record UK sales yesterday.
UK MD Phil Jones said: "The market generally hasn’t had the best of years. Tablets have arrived and people are changing how they distribute information.
"But pretty much in every sector we compete, our share is up. We’ve fought hard to increase market share, so that’s paid off really well.
"Of all laser devices sold now, about one in four is a Brother, against a backdrop of eight or nine vendors. It goes to show we’re doing pretty well. We’re number two on mono laser print on its own, and number one in mono laser all in one, so we’ve overtaken HP as the number one mono laser vendor now. Eight or nine years ago I would have said that’d never happen, but here we are."
The company invested in a £2m 'labels are powerful' marketing campaign last year, and wants to continue marketing in a big way going forwards.
"My plan is to keep investing at that level," added Jones. "We’re a sales and marketing driven business and you need to keep your name out there, in the good times and bad."
Brother is also focusing its efforts on its OmniJoin web conferencing tool, and plans to shift from a product-only to a service-based business.
