British Gas is upping its ante within the smart home market, following the launch of several new devices from its Hive smart home business.
With the likes of Apple releasing its own smart home products with its Smart HomeKit, British Gas is now looking to expand its range.
One new device is a plug that allows users to switch off their energy supply using their smartphones and a motion sensor that detects when no one is at home.
In addition, Hive has developed a range of door sensors that can inform users whether doors are shut properly and lights that can be switched on or off wherever a person is in a house.
Plus the firm has also unveiled its next-generation thermostat, which comes with a holiday mode setting, hot water and heating flexibility, as well as other features.
Nina Bhatia, commercial director of British Gas, said via The Drum. “We’re making the connected home an easy and accessible reality by bringing the whole system to people from one, trusted provider.
“We’re the only UK company to deliver the complete connected home experience to our customers – from product development to delivery, installation, and ongoing support.”

This news follows British Gas’ recent acquisition of smart home provider AlertMe in a deal worth £44 million.
