Developer's COO says he understands focus on 360 but believes there is room for improvement

Blizzard: ‘Microsoft can do more for PC gaming’

Microsoft’s focus on the Xbox 360 is hurting gaming on the PC. That was the message Blizzard’s chief operating officer Paul Sams sent to Microsoft yesterday.

Speaking with Gamasutra, Sams stressed that he could understand Microsoft’s focus on the 360, but said he felt the firm could put more resources into Windows gaming without having to divert resources or canabalise market share from its consoles.

"[Microsoft’s] focus is very much on the 360; and that makes sense, cause it’s a hardware manufacturer, as well as a software developer. And so it has got a lot of money and investment tied up in that system," explained Sams.

"I kind of look at it and say to myself, it would be great if it put more emphasis on the Windows operating system, certainly probably the most prominent operating system in the world; even more so than console boxes.

"It owns and operates that system, so having it could put more energy and effort against it – and it would say that it is – but I think that there is more than can be done."
