Despite the recent launch of its Z10 handset, BlackBerry's CEO has confirmed that two new devices are set to launch by late 2013

BlackBerry CEO confirms new flagship handset for late 2013

Despite the recent launch of the Z10, and the upcoming debut of the Q10, BlackBerry’s CEO has confirmed that another new device is on the way in 2013.

Talking to CNET, Thorsten Heins stated that a new flagship device for Blackberry was on the way; one that the firm’s CEO is "very excited about."

"There’s one new product I’m really excited about, but I can’t really share it," said Heins, "It takes BlackBerry 10 to another level in terms of the user experience."

Whilst expected towards the end of 2013, Heins wouldn’t guarantee a release for the device this side of the New Year. Heins also hinted that an additional BlackBerry device should be expected by mid-2013.

The news comes as the firm released its Z10 handset in the US today, whilst also celebrating the 100,000 milestone for the firm’s app store, which users can now browse and download from.

BlackBerry also reports that in just seven weeks, the store added over 30,000 apps to its available catalogue.

With the Z10 already on sale, and rumours swirling over the firm’s yet to be announced devices, the Q10 handset, which was revealed simultaneously with the Z10, has yet to make an appearance. However, as consumers await the device’s release, the handset finally received an unlocked price tag of £529.98.

The firm has somewhat fallen behind in the smartphone game as of late, trailing to the likes of Samsung and Apple, whom have both released yearly updates to their flagship Galaxy and iPhone ranges.

With Samsung having lifted the lid on its Galaxy S4, whilst Apple readies its new iPhone device later this year, it seems that BlackBerry is making up for lost time in attempt to catch up by releasing a bevy of its own new devices.
