US retail giant Best Buy will look to take on 8,000 workers from May, when it opens the first of its megastores in the UK.
The firm has confirmed that the flagship site will open next month in Thurrock, followed by Hedge End near Southampton and Merry Hill in the West Midlands in June. A store in Aintree near Liverpool will start trading slightly after, with Croydon expected in autumn 2010.
The sites will range from around 35,000 to 50,000 square feet, with Thurrock being the largest store. “We believe Best Buy is a completely different kind of consumer electronics retailer,” a spokesperson told us. “All of our in-store team undergo extensive training in our nine-week-long Blueshirt Training Academy to ensure they are second-to-none in their commitment to customer service and their expertise of consumer electronics. Importantly, they do not work on commission so this means that our customers can truly get impartial and expert advice to help them make the right choices on what to buy.
“We have a number of service initiatives to help customers try products and get the most out of them, such as ‘walk-out-working’, ‘trade-in and save’ and ‘one-to-one help’.”
