Head of Microsoft says further acquisitions unlikely in the fight against google

Ballmer cold on further web buyouts

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has poured cold water on the possibility of making further acquisitions in its web search engine battle with Google.

The global software giant recently struck a landmark ten-year deal with once-rival Yahoo, which will see Microsoft’s Bing search engine integrated into Yahoo’s homepage and news and feature pages.

The deal will likely cause a surge in web traffic for Microsoft and also grow its net ad clients.

Yet this hostile move against Google’s dominance will not be repeated, according to Ballmer.

“I wouldn’t expect it,” he told Reuters. "You’ll continue to see us work hard and invest in the marketing and the like, and of course we’re trying to get the Yahoo deal through regulatory."
