Vows to increase presence on High Street with further retail partnerships

AVG signs Maplin deal

AVG has signalled its intentions to step up its presence on the UK High Street, after signing a deal with Maplin that will see its software stocked in the electronics retailer’s 158 stores.

The deal, which also encompasses its online store, will see Maplin carrying the security vendor’s web security and antivirus products.

However, according to AVG’s UK and Ireland sales director Graham O’Reilly, the deal is the first of many the vendor is looking for seal, revealing that it plans to forge partnerships with most of the High Street’s biggest names.

O’Reilly added that the combination of its 80m customers – most of which are free users – combined with strong partnerships with the High Street will help the vendor and its retail partners to benefit from the huge revenue potential.

"We have something our rivals cannot offer," he told CRN. "We can guarantee retailers that millions of our free users are walking through their stores every day."

He also detailed plans to target OEMs and ISPs later this year. "This will lift the brand for everyone and benefit the wider reseller channel."

Only last year, the vendor made the bold claim that it would be number two in the world before the end of 2008.
