During this year’s Computex show in Taipei, Asus unveiled a new PC tower which shape shifts like a Transformer robot.

Developed in collaboration with case manufacturer In Win, a touch of a button causes the tower sides to unfold, exposing the PC’s core frame, which rises up to offer easy access to the internal components.

While most of the more extravagant feats of computing that appear at trades shows are usually one-offs or prototypes, rumour has it that the manufacturer intends to mass-produce the Transformer-esque product and make it available by the end of the year.

There is no word yet on pricing or the name of the PC.

While this may be seen as a cool gadget for hardcore gamers, this type of technology could prove very handy in a business environment, giving IT managers and technicians faster access when upgrading and fixing office machines.

So, we could be seeing these Transformer PCs ‘roll out’ in offices in the near future…
