Two developers caught photographing and videotaping a military installation

ARMA 3 developers arrested for spying in Greece

Two members of the ARMA 3 development team have been arrested in the Greek island of Lemnos, accused of gathering intel on the local military facilities.

Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar, both developers at Bohemia Interactive, were believed to be carrying out research for the new game.

The two Czech developers were caught photographing and videotaping a military installation on the island without permission. They have been accused of espionage and denied bail. If found guilty, the two men could face 20 years in prison.

"The last telephone call from our boys has drastically changed the situation," said Butcha’s mother in a statement. "In the previous calls we have assured them that everything is being done to save them and they assured us that they’re holding it together as well as they can.

"They no longer tell us that it’s alright… After this judicial decision we have heard from Martin and Ivan something that no parent wants to hear. During the phone call, they basically told us one thing: ‘Mom, Dad, please save us’."

Bohemia Interactive’s CEO Marek Spanel confirmed the news on the company’s forums saying: “We prefer this topic not to be discussed on our forums atm, at least until we know more specific details about the case so I am going to close this topic and our moderators are going to close any related discussion here, thank you for understanding.”

Back in 2001, British plane-spotters were arrested in Greece accused of espionage. They were also threatened with lengthy prison sentences, but were acquitted after a long legal battle.
