Argos has revealed that total sales grew by 4.8 per cent to £868 million in Q1.
The retailer reports that like-for-like sales increased by 4.9 per cent in the 13 weeks to May 31st, 2014, with the growth being driven by its video gaming and TV products, which was partially offset by a ‘market driven’ decline in tablets.
Argos also revealed that internet sales were on the rise and represented 42 per cent of total sales in Q1. Mobile commerce grew by 56 per cent and represented 21 per cent of total sales.
These results follow a positive sales performance during the final eight-week trading period if Argos’ financial year ending March 1st 2014, where like-for-like sales grew by 5.2 per cent to £526 million.
Shortly after those results, Argos announced that it would be extending its digital store concept trial and opening up a further 25 stores by March 2015.
The new stores see traditional shopping catalogues replaced by tablets and feature online prepayment, fast track product collection and a voice-driven picking system with faster retrieval of customer orders.
