Retailers? 70th edition will contain an extra seven hundred products

Argos celebrates birthday with expanded catalogue

Retail giant Argos will be celebrating its 35th birthday this week by expanding its product range.

The first Argos catalogue, launched in 1973, contained 4,700 products in 250 pages. Thirty-five years and 70 editions later, the catalogue is a colossal 1800 pages long, contains over 18,000 products and is likely to be in two-thirds of UK households.

In acknowledgement of recent financial troubles across the spectrum, the new version will also include an extended Argos Value section – a move that the retailer hopes will help to boost its competitiveness in an increasingly cramped market.

Sara Weller, managing director of Argos said: “The catalogue has been recognised as a cultural icon and we’re delighted to be celebrating our 35th anniversary this week by introducing our biggest and best book yet”.
