West Yorkshire-based custom PC modder Deblow has posted pictures and videos of an impressive new PC-in-a-desk this week.
Dubbed the ‘Ultimate Custom PC Build’, it cost around £4,500 to build and boasts an ASUS R9 295×2 GPU, an i7-5820k CPU and more (see the specs at the bottom of this article).
US consumer games website Kotaku picked up on the PC and wrote a piece on it, naming it a ‘future killing machine’. Reader comments on the story are positive, as are the comments on Deblow’s Facebook page.
It got us thinking – if a consumer is going to spend £4,000+ on a high-end gaming/performance PC, why would they buy a typical tower PC when they can get something like this?
Perhaps this renewed interest in desk PCs suggest they could become more popular over the coming years, as PC gaming evolves and takes a turn towards virtual reality – gamers will want a better gaming environment to experience the newest titles.
PC desks can also add a ‘wow’ factor to a store or other area for customers.
But while they certainly look impressive, desk PCs are nothing new.
Scan Computers built this radical £21,000 beast a few years back, and DinoPC recently showed off its PC-in-a-desk at the Multiplay Insomnia gaming event a few months back.
Something that has grown over the past few years, however, is the demand for customisation. Gamers and PC users want kit that is their own – whether it’s a blue colour scheme on their PC and gaming accessories, custom keys on their keyboard or even their own name etched into their PC case.
Vendors are recognising this trend, with products like the Cooler Master MasterCase and Roccat Nyth modular mouse coming to market in recent months.
InWin also told PCR it is seeing greater demand for premium PC chassis, like its transforming H-Tower case.
