Apple has been sued for the use of the word ‘iPad’, and is reportedly likely to lose the case.
According to Business Insider, a Chinese company called Proview Electronics is suing the US vendor for $1.6 billion and an apology for trademark infringement.
Apple had reportedly bought the iPad name from Proview for $55,000 dollars, but Proview maintains that the agreement did not cover the use of the word in the Chinese domestic market.
The Chinese courts have in fact already found in Proviews favour, and Apple is appealing the decision.
“We have prepared well for a long-term legal battle,” said Apple’s lawyer, Xiao Caiyuan.
