Apple has unveiled new editions for its MacBook and iMac product portfolio.

The MacBook Pro has been upgraded with a 15-inch Retina display and Apple’s new Force Touch trackpad.

Force Touch offers a range of new functions, including the ability to tap a word to launch a web search on that term.

The new Pro will be priced at £1,599 with a 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 processor, or £1,999 with a 2.5GHz quad-core Intel processor.

Philip Schiller, senior VP of worldwide marketing at Apple, said: “The response to the new MacBook and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display has been amazing, and today we are thrilled to bring the new Force Touch trackpad, faster flash storage and longer battery life to the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display."

Another device unveiled by the tech giant is a cheaper version of the 27-inch iMac, which was first unveiled last year.

This new version boasts a 1TB hard drive rather than a 1TB fusion hard drive and will cost £1,599.

Schiller added: “Customers love the groundbreaking iMac with Retina 5K display, and now with a new lower starting price, even more people can experience the best desktop we’ve ever made."

Both new devices are available to order from the Apple website.

This news comes after Apple revealed that its HomeKit-enabled smart home devices will be launching next month.
