With the launch of the iPhone imminent, Apple is set to open a retail store in Kingston Upon Thames on February 17th.

Apple opens retail store in Kingston

The new store is located in the Bentall Centre and will open to the public on Saturday February 17th at 9:00. As part of its grand opening visitors will be invited to enter a ‘digital lifestyle sweepstake’ – the winners of which will be awarded Apple products worth over £1700, including a black MacBook and a silver iPod nano. A variety of presentations, demos and workshops will also take place free of charge and the first 1000 people through the door will also be given a free Apple t-shirt.

The Genius Bar will be offering free technical support on the day, while The Studio will be staffed by ‘creatives’ (retail assistants) who can advise visitors with such things as retouching photos and recording movies.

Like existing retail outlets, the Kingston store will stock all of Apple’s software, hardware and merchandise and will offer hour-long tutorials to customers, designed to help them get the most out of the products.

Apple has been in the public eye recently for the unveiling of the iPhone at Macworld 2007. Featuring a large multi touch display and new software, the most notable aspect of the device was the abandonment of the familiar iPod Click Wheel interface.

“iPhone is a revolutionary and magical product that is literally five years ahead of any other mobile phone,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “We are all born with the ultimate pointing device, our fingers, and iPhone uses them to create the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse.”
