Apple has been using Intel Chips since 2005

Apple looking to ditch Intel chips from Mac computers

Bloomberg has reported that Apple may drop Intel chips from its Mac computers, to replace them with its own ones.

Apple engineers have commented that one day the company’s own chips will be powerful enough to run Macs.

“While Apple is now committed to Intel in computers and is unlikely to switch in the next few years, some engineers say a shift to its own designs is inevitable as the features of mobile devices and PCs become more similar,” said Bloomberg’s Apple sources.

This news will come as a blow to Intel, who has been providing chips to Apple for seven years.

Apple began using Intel chips back in 2005 after it switched from using PowerPC processors. Now that the lines are being blurred between mobile devices and PCs, it seems Apple thinks it will eventual switch to in-house chips for its Macs.
