Apple have released an iOS update which introduces the promised changes to location tracking issues exposed by security searchers.
The update follows a storm of controversy around revelations that iOS devices were holding as much as a year’s worth of location data on the affected devices and that the information was not only easily accessible but automatically backed up when syncing with a host computer via iTunes.
iOS 4.3.3 update made available for the iPhone 4, 3GS and both first and second generation iPad tablets has now reduced the amount of data collected to just a week. The indefinate storage of the previous version has been described by Apple as a ‘bug’.
The new iOS update will now not back up the cache via iTunes and will delete the file altogether when Location Services are disabled on the phone.
