Latest incident follows numerous reports of overheating iPods

Apple faces heat after iPhone explodes

Apple looks set to receive more bad press after another one of its products exploded due to an overheated lithium ion battery.

According to the AFP, a French teenager has claimed that he was struck in the eye by glass after an iPhone exploded in his face. His mother has threatened to file a complaint against Apple.

According to the report, the phone made a hissing noise before the screen suddenly shattered, sending pieces flying in to the air.

This report closely matches similar reports of exploding iPods. The same symptoms were described by Briton Ken Stanborough, whose iPod exploded earlier this month.

Apple has been accused of trying to cover up these reports by offering refunds with a confidentiality clause, and it has been alleged that it withheld documentation from the US consumer product safety commission.
