Apple has purchased 3D motion tech firm PrimeSense for a reported $360m (£222m).
Last week, PCR revealed that Apple was in final discussions with the Israeli company, which was the original supplier for Microsoft’s Kinect sensor.
The BBC reports that in October 2011, Apple filed a patent for new ways to control devices without touching them. This acquisition will no doubt start a mass onslaught of rumours about Apple devices incorporating motion sense, especially the ones about Apple TV.
Earlier this year, PrimeSense showed its sensor working with a Nexus 10 tablet at a Google Developers conference. So the possibility of seeing an iPhone or iPad with motion sensing technology may be sooner than we thought.
