Google app offering predicted to surpass Apple's

Android’s Market closing on App Store

Android Market is growing at a faster rate than its Apple counterpart, the App Store.

Business Insider research revealed Apple currently has 350,000 apps for sale in the App store, compared to Google’s 250,000.

Market was offering 100,000 apps in Octobe, so that’s an impressive growth of 150 per cent in just 6 months.

The increase is thanks to Android becoming the world’s most popular smartphone platform. Developers will naturally flock to the busiest market, and although Android is not yet that, at the current rate Google will see its app offering match Apple’s within the next few months.

Anroid popularity is on an upward curve. The smartphones are outselling all competitors in the US, and with avalanche of Market-based Honeycomb tablets due to land soon, the Google model looks likely to take the lead.

The App Store has been a key USP for iOS devices, but with parity on the way, Apple’s smartphone market share will continue dwindle as consumer heads are turned.
