Chipmaker AMD announced that the firm has begun shipping the 32nm quad-core 'Llano' APU.
AMD interim CEO Thomas Siefert said: "Customers are very excited about Llano coming to market and we will look forward to seeing our Llano-based systems in the market this quarter."
Senior AMD PR man Phil Hughes posted an image (pictured) on the AMD Blog of the assembled staff at the firm's facility in Singapore celebrating the shipment of the next-generation chip.
AMD earlier produced a video demonstration of the Fusion APU 'Llano' in a multi-tasking environment going head-to-head with the Intel Core i7-2630QM.
In the demonstration the same scene is shown in the game Final Fantasy with an overlay of each chip's power consumption. Unsurprisingly the AMD demonstration showed smoother video and lower power use.
