Head of developer relations doesn't rule out acquisition of Ageia

AMD says GPU PhysX may be delayed until DirectX 11

Richard Huddy, head of developer relations for AMD, has told tech site xbit laboratories that he can’t see PhyX technology playing a major part in new computer games for a while.

He also said, in an interview with Custom PC, that he thought Intel may have paid ten times too much for PhysX company Havok when it bought it this September. "If I’d been valuing Havok, I’d have valued it at probably something like 10 per cent of that because they were in so much trouble in the marketplace, but realistically they did have some valuable IP, and you really can capitalise on that if you’re Intel in this situation," he said.

When asked if AMD would consider buying rival PhysX outfit Ageia, Huddy wouldn’t commit one way of the other. "we’ve had that discussion, yes. It’s a discussion that goes round every three months – someone turns to me and says ‘why don’t we buy Ageia?’ and I go through the arguments about why we should and why we shouldn’t."
