AMD is to launch several new desktop processors including a Phenom II process with six cores priced lower than Intel's least expensive Core processor.
The Phenom II X6 1075 processor includes AMD's overclocking feature called "Turbo Core" which takes advantage of the entire heat profile of the processor by increasing the clock speed on active cores when several other cores aren't being utilised.
Priced at least than $250, the new Phenom II X6 1075 is vastly less expensive than the cheapest Intel six core product, the Core i7-970 which goes for nearly $900 in quantity.
The Intel competitor is also launching two new enthusiast "Black Edition" processors in a similar category as Intel's "Extreme Edition" offerings which also provided the ability for enthusiasts to overclock the processors. There's the quad core Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition and the dual core Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition.
There's also new low end Athlon II processors including the $122 Athlon II X4 645 which again is less expensive than the least costly Intel quad core CPU.
