Says it's the "ideal online destination for shopping computer software"

Amazon UK launches digital software and game downloads

Online retail giant Amazon.co.uk is now selling digital software and games for customers to download onto their PCs and Macs online.

The new digital software hub contains products such as Sage Instant Accounts, Office, PhotoPlus X6, Kaspersky Internet Security, Windows 8 and more.

Amazon joins Currys and PC World which launched software downloads last month.

"The Amazon.co.uk Digital Software store is the ideal online destination for shopping computer software," said Amazon in a statement.

"If you are looking to download software directly to your Mac or PC, you’ve come to the right place. Amazon.co.uk offers a growing collection of top software programs available for instant download to a computer, making the experience of shopping for software online more convenient than ever."

Amazon has also launched digital games and free-to-play games hubs. The former rivals popular online game download service Steam, and has been in the works for years. It launched in the US four years ago.

PC and Mac owners can buy and download games online such as Mass Effect 3 and Borderlands 2, as well as game cards for Xbox Live and more.

Users can also download free-to-play games like Stronghold Kingdoms, some of which allow players to pay for in-game extras.

All three new hubs are in the beta stage.
