Amazon has slashed the price of the Kindle 3 with refurbished models going for just $100.
The 'refurbished' Kindles are pristine by all accounts and have previously sold for just $10 less than a brand new model but now they're $39 less which has fueled speculation that a next-generation Kindle 4 is just around the corner.
Amazon last held a fire sale of Kindle 2 products the month before the Kindle 3 launched. Reports have emerged that the firm is set to launch two new e-readers, one a touch-screen high-end model while the other is a low cost model aimed at students.
The firm is also widely believed to be preparing to launch competitively priced Android-based tablets with 7-inch and 10-inch displays. It's possible Amazon could unveil a new batch of e-readers and Android tablets at the same time.
A September announcement perhaps? In the mean time, a sub $100 Kindle 3 is a great deal.
