After being ordered by the Government to be more transparent, Amazon has revealed its UK sales figures.

Earlier this month Amazon, along with Google and Starbucks, was ordered to give additional written evidence regarding its UK tax affairs. For Amazon, this included a basic breakdown of their retail sales in the UK.

The e-tailer has revealed that it took £3.35bn in UK sales in 2011. The figures also reveal that 45 per cent of Amazon’s European income is from the UK, with 40 per cent of that from its UK website. The rest is made up of other UK businesses such as Lovefilm.

As well as 2011, Amazon revealed sales of £2.36bn for 2010 and £1.87bn for 2009. The company also reported that it brought in £416m of VAT for the UK Government in 2011.

Last week Amazon launched its Black Friday sales event, which took place for a whole seven days and included discounts on a number of tech products, including Amazon’s own e-reader device, the Kindle Fire.
